TLDR: This is a bit of an epic post. Part 1 is my heartfelt thank yous and recap of 2023. Part 2 has the details of our January classes including a section encouraging new beginner dancers to join us and a small incentive for all to attend every week in January.
Firstly I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out to our Christmas Social dance in December. A few folk were sadly kept away by winter colds or other festive commitments at this busy time of year and yet we still had so many of us in the room. And, from the smiles and laughter on the day, and the lovely messages I’ve had since, from the fun swing rueda class, to snowballs, shim shams, and jam circles, social dancing and socialising, I think you all had a marvellous time. I know I did.

I also want to thank: Sarah and Tony for helping set up (those tables don’t wrap themselves you know!); everyone who brought food for the fuddle table (there were some lovely homemade dishes this year and I actually got to taste some of them before they were gone, yum!); and Adele, Graham, Paul and all who helped with the clear down (especially when I was so tired I could barely think straight)!
For those that didn’t see it on the socials here’s me, very tired, at the end, gushing away with happy thanks (note: there’s a little speaker button in bottom corner of the insta video which you may need to press to get sound) 🥰
I also want to thank everyone who has supported us throughout 2023 and I put together this little reel (see below), remembering where we started the year and where we finished.
Putting reels together is a skill I need to work on (and I/we really need to take more photos and videos of all the good times we have – too busy dancing of course!) but for me, simple though this is, it’s a lovely reminder that after just two taster classes at the end of 2022, we started 2023 with a one level intro to Lindy Hop class, twice a month, and finished with two levels of Lindy Hop classes, three Sundays a month, plus a Solo Jazz class once a month on Mondays. We also held four social dances of our own and supported and attended Late Night Lindy along the way too.
So, thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm that you all bring to our classes and events as we continue to build our wonderful community together. For all the work I do behind the scenes and on each day it’s really all of you who make it so special and completely worth it. 🥰
I’m now very excited about what we can do together in the year ahead!
2024 – Lindy Hop & Solo Jazz

Now, I don’t know about you but I’m getting just a little tired of dull grey skies and rainy days and I can’t wait to get dancing with you all again to banish those January blues.
Thankfully I have good news for us all as classes begin again this weekend (Sun 7th & Mon 8th Jan)! Yay!
You can go to the ‘about us and our classes page’ for more details on all our classes – where, when and how much 🙂
However, they’re all held at St Christopher’s Church Hall, Trent Road, Sneinton, Nottingham and here are the dates and a little info (and a little offer) to whet your appetite:
Lindy Hop classes this month will be on Sunday 7th, 14th, & 21st January
We have level 1 Foundations (suitable for beginners) at 5pm, practice and social time (all levels) at 6pm, and level 2 Improvers at 6.30pm.
What is Lindy Hop? – follow the link to find out more about this fabulous dance
Brand new dancers – all welcome, no partner or experience necessary – what are you waiting for?!
Our level 1 Lindy Hop class at 5pm on Sunday is completely suitable for brand new dancers, so why not jump in and give it a whirl! It’s just £7 per person.
We start from the rhythm and the footwork, then on to connection, building skills through the class and each week through the month.
Any gender can dance any role (lead or follow) in fact many dancers learn both over time and switch dancing can be so much fun. We all dance with each other and rotate in the class so no partner necessary. You can check out our ‘What is Lindy Hop?’ page for more details about the dance.
Remember everyone learns at different paces in the class, some may have danced before, some never a step, but we all support each other and laugh along the way, (and tbh the ‘wibbly wobbly’ moments are often just as much fun as the ‘aha! I got it!’ moments) and you will learn and improve week-by-week even if you start with two left feet and you’re more tortoise than hare. If you throw yourself and enjoy the ride, you’ll have a blast.
£20 bundle offer to gently encourage you ALL to attend ALL Lindy Hop Sundays in January
Now the biggest challenge might be turning up to your first class but to get the most out of your experience, you really should try a full month of classes (it’s only 3 weeks!)
So, if you want to help yourself to commit to a full month of classes, you can pay for all three January level 1 classes for the slightly reduced price of £20 if paid in full when you join us on 7 January.
I’m also making the same offer to level 2 dancers – all three level 2 (only) January classes for £20 if paid in full on 7 January.
For those of you that do both classes each week, you’re already getting a fabulous discount, but you too can make a small extra saving by paying £35 up front on 7 January for all three January Sundays.
(Note: there are no refunds for non-attendance – this small offer is to help give you the incentive to join us each week and really get the benefit of regular attendance, when perhaps the sofa might be calling your name a little too loudly 😉 – I hope it helps )
Card or cash accepted on the door. (Btw I’m working on a pre-pay system as an option but not set up yet).
Solo Jazz classes will be on Monday 8th & 22nd January (8pm)
This class is also completely suitable for beginners.
The class itself is an all levels class from 8pm where complete beginners work alongside more experienced dancers at their own pace with options for all at their own level.
All are welcome, no experience necessary.
It’s really good fun and a dance style in its own right including vernacular Jazz and Charleston rhythms and movements which are danced independently, either alone, in pairs or in a group but as it also teaches us balance, coordination, style, and most importantly, rhythm you can bring this into and improve your partnered dancing too.
The good news is we’ve moved from one class a month to two a month this year. I’m so excited!
See you soon!
Whichever classes you’re able to get to, I’m really looking forward to getting back on the dance floor with you all again (at St Christopher’s Church Hall, Trent Road, Sneinton, Nottingham) and for lots of new dancers to join us there too.
Roll on the weekend!
Love Lisa xx
PS – I realised while getting ready for the new year that 2024 (in May) will mark 20 years since I started Lindy Hopping – my lindy-versary! I’ll have also been teaching it for around 16ish years and running Nottingham Lindy Hop for 14 years. My goodness that’s a long time! I’ll have to think about how we can celebrate. 😘
