Hockley Hustle, European Swing Dance Championships – 2 week class break

Hi everyone.

A quick reminder that we now have a two week break at Sneinton. That’s for both Lindy Hop and Jazz classes. We’ll be back on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 October 2015.

—————

Today Sunday 11 October is to give us all the chance to head down to the Hockley Hustle (live music festival) in Nottingham city centre. There is live music all day and night in pretty much every bar in the Hockley area and in Das Kino (just opposite the lace market tram stop) all the bands are going to be playing swing, blues or jazz

More details can be found on their website (including the full line up and how to get tickets if you haven’t already) here: http://www.hockleyhustle.co.uk

—————

I also want to wish all the dancers heading to London today the best of luck in their world record attempt for the most charleston dancers, sounds like that is going to be amazing! Looking forward to seeing videos of that. ‘Break a leg’ everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ http://www.swingpatrol.co.uk/spevents/worlds-largest-charleston-record-attempt/

—————

Next week (15-18 Oct 2015) it’s the European Swing Dance Championships also in London and as quite a few folks are heading down, including most of your teaching team, it seemed sensible to extend the break to 2 weeks.

Here’s the ESDC website if you want to know more about this great event http://www.europeanswing.com.  But if you’re not able to go down to ESDC make sure you’re glued to YouTube as all the videos usually come out quite quickly showing all the amazing finals ๐Ÿ™‚

—————

So, enjoy your break and don’t worry we’ll be back on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 October so see you all then if not before ๐Ÿ™‚

Party time is here!

Hello everyone!

Today, Sunday 2 August, it’s finally Tea Dance and Fuddle time!

From 6pm till 10.30pm at our usual venue, The Old School Hall, Windmill Lane, Sneinton, Nottingham we’ll be celebrating 5 years (belatedly) of Nottingham Lindy Hop in Sneinton and also letting me continue my own Birthday celebrations in swinging style. If you haven’t been to the venue before just follow the signs to Green’s Windmill and Science Centre ๐Ÿ™‚

Remember it’s FREE entry for everyone who brings a donation of food to the fuddle for all to share. Teas and coffees and squash will be provided as always but feel free to’ bring your own’.

Let’s see if we can make the fuddle the best ever!

Instead of the door charge I’ll also be running a voluntary collection to raise money for food bank charities so please give whatever you are able – but no pressure!

Alex, Paul, George, Mark and myself will be playing lots of fabulous swinging tunes to keep you dancing. We’ll have a fun icebreaker class early on and I’m sure there’ll be snowball dances, jam circles, shim shams and the like to keep us all entertained.

Looking forward to seeing you all later!

Sun 7 June: slight change to class schedule + social at Uni of Nottm

Hi everyone.

Just a quick note to remind you that there is a small change to classes this week to accommodate a free social dance that’s taking place at the University of Nottingham.

Class schedule

  • Fundamentals (Beginners) is running as usual from 5.30 – we’ll be trying very hard to get started on time today ๐Ÿ™‚
  • More rhythms (Improvers) will run at 6.30/6.45 unless everyone prefers to head to the social (which is perfectly ok with us). However if anyone turns up wanting the class to go ahead the class will run – promise ๐Ÿ™‚ Though we will be trying to get it going as early as possible.
  • Intermediates – this class is definitely cancelled today as the consensus last week was that everyone in this class wanted to head to the social ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking forward to seeing you all later – at classes or the social.

—————————

The Social

This is being held by the University of Nottingham Swing Society at the end of a day of workshops but is open to everyone – and it’s free ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s run from 6.30pm – 9.30pm at the Djanogly Music Rehearsal Hall (near Lakeside Arts)

This is the address: Djanogly Recital Hall, University of Nottingham, University Boulevard, Nottingham NG7 2RD

Sat 30 May: Sneinton Market ‘Fings Ain’t What They Used To Be’ Heritage Launch

Hello everyone! We’ve been invited to come out dancing this Sat 30 May in support of Sneinton Market’s ‘Fings Ain’t What They Used To Be!’ 50s Market and Heritage Launch. Event is open from 10am to 3pm.

I’ll be teaching a couple of Lindy Hop taster classes at some point during the day (TIMES NOW CONFIRMED: 11:30am – social and demo dancing after official opening and 12:30pm for taster class/workshop) and it would be really wonderful to have lots of Swing, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Sh@g, Balboa and Rock & Roll Dancers – whatever your preferred style or wherever you usually dance – hanging out, joining in and basically enjoying dancing away in (fingers tightly crossed) the sunshine. For those of you who love dressing up they’re very keen on that too, but no pressure on that front.

Here are the details of the main event.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1395507420773741/

I know quite a few of you are heading off to London Swing Festival this weekend but I’m hoping there are still heaps of lovely dancer types around, ready and willing. It should be a fun day with lots of exciting vintage clothing, craft and food stalls.

Many thanks for your support, Lisa x
